Frequently asked questions in Stanway
- Do you conduct military funerals?
The new City of Colchester has a long military history, and so we have conducted a number of funerals with military connections. Many of them have been for former service personnel who have lived long and full lives and want to recognise their links to the services, but others have been for current service personnel. In all cases, we work with families, regiments, the Royal British Legion, and others, to put together an appropriate ceremony with all of the proper elements.
- Do you offer Muslim funerals?
We are used to providing funerals which adhere to the traditions and rituals of the Islamic faith, and are very happy to work with you to ensure that all the arrangements are appropriate for your needs. For example, we allow our embalming suite to be used for proper preparation of the body. We also have specially constructed caskets which allow appropriate transportation to the site of burial before interment in a shroud. We’re aware that traditions and rituals may vary according to where in the world your family originates, so we would always advise a conversation between those arranging the funeral and our expert team.
- Where is your Chapel of Rest?
We have three separate Hunnaball Family Funeral Group branches in Colchester, all of which use the same Chapel of Rest, located at The Gate House, in Old Coach Road, Colchester, CO1 2TH. There is parking nearby and viewings can be arranged by contacting your Hunnaball of Colchester or Hunnaball of Stanway funeral arranger. Many of our other branches in Essex and Suffolk also have a Chapel of Rest.
- Do you provide direct cremations?
We offer local direct cremations. They are an alternative to traditional funeral ceremonies and can save money, but they do not allow for family and friends to attend at the time of cremation because they take place at a time most convenient to the crematorium. We recommend using your local funeral director for a direct cremation, because it keeps your loved one closer to home and ensures that they receive the same dignified individual attention from which all our clients benefit. The cremated remains of your loved one will be returned to the branch for collection, or scattered or interred, according to your instructions. All direct cremations are carried out with the same compassion and professionalism as every funeral we arrange.

Thank you for providing the final act in my Mother’s long and treasured life.”

“I wish to thank you for the excellent efforts made for my wife’s funeral which went off without a hitch.
