Pre-paid Funeral Plans – FCA changes

The big news in the industry is that from 29th July 2022, pre-paid funeral plans will be regulated by the Financial
Conduct Authority (FCA).

Regulation is very welcome and, in the long term, will be a huge help to consumers, bringing greater peace of mind and financial protection. In a similar way to the mortgage industry, all providers and vendors must be registered and trained.

For those who have already purchased pre-paid funeral plans through The Hunnaball Family Funeral Group, we do not envisage any problems with the regulation process. If there is a problem, your policy provider will get in touch directly, or, if you’re unsure, you can contact them. We will, of course, do everything we can to help our clients.

Our current provider, Golden Charter, is one of the largest and most reputable providers of pre-paid funeral plans on the market and are extremely likely to be approved by the FCA, and we will continue to offer their products as authorised representatives.

Trevor’s 65 years in the business

trevor hunnaball

2022 marks the 65th anniversary of Trevor Hunnaball starting work in the funeral industry.

Trevor has worked in every aspect of the business over the years; as a conductor, an embalmer, driver, arranger, first responder, and more. He has also served at every level of the National Association of Funeral Directors, including as National President, and is very well respected by his colleagues across the industry.

It’s not surprising. Trevor epitomises so many of the values we hold dear; compassion, professionalism, hard work, kindness, and loyalty. He continues to be involved in the Hunnaball Family Funeral Group, both as Chairman of the company and regularly conducting funerals.

To mark his remarkable achievement, Trevor is writing a monthly blog for our website (which you can find in the News and Events section), and there will be a special event or two in the autumn.

Janet Davies, thank you!

At the end of March, Janet Davies, one of the original “Ladies in Hats” and the name above the door in our Braintree and Kelvedon branches, retired.

She embodied the compassion and professionalism that the Hunnaball Family Funeral Group hold dear and which is at the heart of the work we do.

Janet trained many outstanding people in the funeral industry and will continue to be an inspiration to many of us. More, there are countless families who’ve found comfort and support thanks to her hard work and kindness.

A huge THANK YOU to Janet from all of us and we wish her every joy and blessing.

Colchester Commemorates Covid

The Covid Commemoration Event for the Colchester Borough was a moving and successful event on 26th March 2022.

Held at the Mercury Theatre, the Mayor and the Borough Council hosted families, community representatives and groups, performers, and other key people for an act of remembrance and thanksgiving in the aftermath of the pandemic. Thanks to everyone involved, they did an incredible job.

Melanie Hunnaball (who spoke at the event) and Sir Bob Russell, Colchester’s High Steward, had the idea even before a National Day of Commemoration was called, and the Borough Council brought it to life.

On the same day, thousands of bulbs were planted by the town wall next to the Mercury, to help remind us, every spring, with a display of beauty and life.

A permanent memorial will be provided by the Hunnaball Family Funeral Group to be installed amid the flowers.

The Trussell Trust

The Trussell Trust is a charity which supports community foodbanks all over the UK, working with churches and local groups to support some of the most vulnerable people in our society.

We’re proud to say that they’re our adopted charity for 2022 and members of the Hunnaball work family are raising money and awareness on their behalf throughout the year.

The work family have been collecting donations of food for the foodbanks who serve the local communities around our branches, and a team of volunteers, The Hunnaball Heroes, ran 5k to support the Trussell Trust Race Against Hunger.

There will be other events and opportunities to support this amazing charity in the near future.

We’re still supporting local charities and other good causes, but the work of the Trussell Trust is so important during these challenging times, we want to support them as much as we can.
