Working within the funeral profession is a unique experience; a topic that is often not openly discussed within society – death and bereavement – is an undeniable focus of your daily working life. Funeral arrangers and directors, and similar roles, provide a very specific set of services to their community, which usually encompasses far more than simply arranging funerals.

We give practical guidance and advice to bereaved families (including about what needs to take place after someone passes away, the necessary paperwork and legal procedures in place). We provide the highest levels of careful, dignified, respectful care for the deceased themselves, as well as making funeral arrangements, often attending and conducting funerals in whatever capacity is required of us. Perhaps most importantly, we offer our compassionate emotional support, wherever and however we possibly can, to make a very difficult time of life as easy and gentle as possible for grieving families.

Those with careers within the funeral industry choose to do so for many different reasons and circumstances… but one thing that all funeral workers – those who are in the profession for the ‘right reasons’ – share is their desire to care for people in one of the most difficult times of their life, with emotional support, expert advice and practical help.

It is this ‘calling’ to care for people, with professionalism and empathy, that drives all of us at the Hunnaball Family Funeral Group. Every day is different, but what never changes is that we’re a work family, united by our desire to support the living, and the deceased, in their greatest hours of need.

Want to join the Hunnaball work family? We’re currently recruiting for roles across multiple Hunnaball branches, including the below*; full details, including job descriptions can be found on the Hunnaball Careers page. Please email recruitment@hunnaball.co.uk with applications and enquiries.

Full Time Area Manager
Reporting to the Head of Branch Network, and responsible for four branches across Ipswich, Sudbury and Manningtree, our new Area Manager will be a motivated leader, with a passion for delivering exceptional service. You’ll be tasked with managing day-to-day operations and staff in all applicable branches, and will assist the team in providing our clients with the highest possible levels of service at all times. Previous management experience within a similar role would be advantageous.

Full Time Maintenance Facilitator
Our new Maintenance Facilitator’s tasks will include efficient and effective maintenance and repairs (and the smooth coordination thereof) across all Hunnaball branches, to a high level and in conformance with all HSE guidelines. You’ll report to the Head of Operations and will support the Memorials team (where needed to cover sickness/annual leave), as well as carrying out funeral bearing and removals. Previous experience in a similar role would be helpful.

Full Time Funeral Service Operative
Based in our Colchester Support Centre, and reporting to the Gate House Manager, this role is to provide our clients with the highest possible levels of service, whether this be acting as a driver/bearer on funerals, or chauffeur on occasions, assisting with the removal and care of the deceased (within normal working hours and out of hours when on call), preparing coffins and caskets, and supporting the bereaved when they are visiting the chapel of rest. An excellent opportunity to become part of a hardworking, dedicated team.

A Casual Funeral Service Operative role (with no fixed hours) is also currently active.

Part Time Funeral Arranger (x2)
There are two exciting opportunities for the right people to join our dedicated team as Funeral Arrangers, based in Hunnaball of Sudbury and J.K. May Funeral Service in West Mersea, respectively. Reporting to the Area Manager, this role will require successful candidates to assist with efficiently arranging and administering funerals as part of the high level of support we provide to our bereaved clients. Experience of the funeral industry, and proven administration and organisational skills in a client-led setting, will be useful to applications.

These roles are both job shares and will require holiday and sickness cover; for full details about the hours and specifics of each role, head to our Careers page.
