Trevor’s Grandad Harry Hunnaball was a Gunner in the 7th Battalion of the Tank Corps, who was killed in action aged 25 on 21st November 1917 in the first tank battle of WW1.

He is buried in Hermies Hill British Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France, near the site of Bourlon Wood where his tank was captured.

He was the son of James and Julia Hunnaball, of High Street, Dedham, and the husband of Annie Hunnaball of The Street, Ardleigh. They had one son, Jack,  Trevor’s Dad, who was 7 months old at the time of his father’s death.

On Remembrance Sunday, Trevor laid a wreath at the war memorial in Dedham where his grandfather’s name is on the list of the fallen of 1914-1918 war. He and his children and grandchildren have visited Hermies Hill Cemetery, which is situated in  a peaceful hamlet south of Cambrai, in an area which witnessed fierce battles resulting in the loss of hundreds of young lives.

Our family is proud of the ultimate sacrifice Harry Hunnaball made for his country, and we will continue to honour his memory always.
